What Kinds of Features Do You Want to See in Your Next Calgary Home Purchase?

It’s easy to get caught up in all the glory and shining appliances that are staring at you when you go to view a home. Everything is of show quality and at times you can feel like you’re walking into a high-end mansion when you’re actually viewing a two-story 2000 ft.² home. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you need to grab onto a piece of reality before walking into some of these exquisite showcase types of homes that seem to sweep you off your feet the moment you walk in.

When you’re looking at the gleaming appliances on the counter and the beauty of the dark cherry cupboards it’s easy to oversee the fact that you don’t have enough room to prepare food in the kitchen! Even if you do notice it you are so enthralled by the aesthetics in front of you that you feel that you wouldn’t care about the lack of space once you have moved in.

This will all change, however, if you do purchase a house. If those gleaming appliances don’t come with the house you’ll have to move all of your older appliances over and then you’ll start to notice the lack of space. You’ll definitely notice it once you, your partner and the kids all start bumping into one another in the kitchen during the mad rush to get out of the house in the morning. You may even come to the point where you slap your head and wonder why you ever purchased the place.

It’s important to get grounded before you head out to view homes and know what you’re going to be up against. Most people aren’t going to be leaving their kitchen appliances lying around on the counter while the house is showing so there is going to seem like infinite  space on the counter for you to work with. Once you start lining up your common household small appliances on the counter you may wonder where all this space has gone!

You need to have a firm understanding of what you are actually looking for in a house before looking at them. If counter space is important to you, you may want to mention to your real estate agent that you’d like to see homes that have an island in the kitchen. This will give you extra counter space and most kitchens with an island also contain more square footage.

The end goal to keep in mind is that you want to be able to scramble in a rush to get out of the house at the last minute when all the clock radio alarms didn’t go off. You don’t want to be bumping into other people and starting your day on the wrong foot. You need to have a place where everybody feels comfortable and you will thrive as a family. Keep that in mind and you’ll find a place that is perfect not only at the beginning but for many years into the future.
